Sebastian Cothran, a 21-year-old Republican college student will become Haywood County’s new tax collector, responsible for collecting $40 million annually to support county operations.Cothran is pictured here at the county election office last December when he filed to run for office.[huh] What an utter embarrassment about the way people vote by just going in and pushing the Democratic or Republican button on the ballot.It's a shame that people don't take the time to read about each candidate and vote for each candidate on their merit not their political party.Let's hope the staff Haywood County Tax collectors office can carry the weight of this young man and keep our tax collection rate at the outstanding level it has been for the last 4 years."
